Broke and Hungry

It has become apparent that sitting around and waiting for the food system to change for the better is not going to happen. Our food system has progressed for the worse as healthy options seem to be a thing of the past. We as America's future should have the right to pick healthy choices to eat for our bodies. We are all aware of the healthy food choices, yet they are so limited around us that the choice to eat healthy can seem some what impossible.

We are always told that the healthy choice is our own, but what surrounds us are fast food restaurants and advertisements in every direction screaming do not eat healthy. We are unaware and unequipped to make a healthy change. Eating healthy has become unaffordable and unattainable for many "It actually costs around $550 a year more" (Harris, 2013) It is time to turn the corner and re-make healthy as an option. By allowing more farmer's markets as well as having more affordable healthy options.

Being in a college atmosphere I am well aware of our declining bank accounts. As a result we lean towards anything cheap that will not make too much of a dent in our wallets. "A great number of students cannot afford to buy much more than the cheap, unhealthy foods that most grocery stores make readily available." (Cummings, 2013)  Even when turning to our meal plans, we find that our cafeterias do not provide the healthy options that we all need. Fruits and vegetables are a scarcity amongst the food provided in university cafeterias. So we are left to make the decision, starve ourselves or turn to an unhealthy life style?

Allowing this to go on any longer will continue to decrease our nations health. We as the up coming voice for America need to make a stand on this. Looking for ways to equip our colleges with good healthy options and starting a change to lower the prices of healthy foods all around America. We can make a change in how America views healthy and it needs to start now.

  1. Allie, I think you have a really good blog. You give solid points as to where we stand as a nation and what will happen if we continue. I also think you did a really good job at addressing the given audience. The only think I would change would be to break up your paragraphs so that it appears a little easier to read and to add more solutions at the end. Right now your blog just proposes the idea of change, but how do you think we should go about that change? I think that your GIF is PERFECT for your blog. Your blog also had just the right amount of humor. Enough to keep you interested, but not too much that distracted from what you were trying to say. Overall, I think you have a good blog post that gives good ideas and thoughts as to what is going on in our current food system.

  2. Allie, your blog was a pleasure to read. you were able to get your point across efficiently and easily. you did not over clutter your blog with pictures and GIFs, but the GIF you did use is perfectly placed and helps present your message. I was interested all the way through our blog it did not have too much information to bore the audience but had enough to prove your points.one of the only things that i would change, is to add a touch more humor to the blog to make it an even easier read. Although i liked the simplicity of the blog, If you were to add a few more pictures of GIFs i think it could spruce it up and make it more visually pleasing. Overall nice work Allie

  3. Allie, your blog really was interesting to read. The author’s persuasive is to inform the nation what will happen if we continue to consume the way we do. She does a great job appealing to the audience’s emotional side by hitting their wallets. The author shares with her audience how expensive it is to eat healthy and clearly interprets why things need to change. She is able to connect with her audience about how everyone claims it is our choice to eat healthy when in reality for some people it is just not possible. She really appeals to the intended audience by explaining her personal experience with her declining bank accounts. She support her argument when she inserts a quote that clearly shows how college students reach for the food choices that are not going to break the bank. The author uses her gifs successfully; this aids her in supporting her argument. The author can improve her post by breaking up her paragraphs and using lists to keep the readers involved. She could add more evidence to support her claims. The author could add more pictures or gifs to make her post more exciting. Overall you did a great job supporting your argument and informing your audience. Good job, Allie!
