The Truth About McDonald's

McDonald’s is one of the largest fast food companies around the world. No doubt you have eaten there at least once or many times. As broke college students, McDonald's offers a cheap way to get food. However, if you haven't noticed already the food is disgusting.Yes it's cheap, but the quality matches the price.McDonald's food is made from many ingredients that we don't even know about.

McDonald’s chicken nuggets are probably one of the grossest things I have ever eaten. I personally don't like the taste and I never have. The American Journal of Medicine has reveled that chicken nuggets contain "55% fat and the rest is feathers, skin and corn with chemicals, preservatives, hydrogenated fats and petroleum"(Iscool). I don't know about you but I certainly don't want to be eating that stuff. In addition to unknown ingredients, McDonald's is also know for it's greasy food. It may be fast food, but there is a limit on how much grease should be allowed in the food. To the right is a man squeezing the grease out of a McDonald's hamburger.

McDonald's is also very unhealthy. It has so much fat, grease, and calories it's hard to call it real food. They use chemicals it keep their food fresh which actually lowers the quality of their food. Sure it is quick and easy, but is it really worth it. That money could be used to buy better food ,if not healthy, at least something that has honest ingredients and tastes good.A man from Utah reported finding a McDonald's hamburger in his pocket. It still looked exactly the way it was when it was made, except for the fact it was 14 years old (Besent). Most food will go bad or disintegrate but the hamburger stayed exactly the same which shows how chemicals and pesticides can alter the expiration of food or rather the lack of expiration. Having a burger not go bad after 14 years is not something I want going into my body.

If that doesn't ruin your appetite, then think about this. A Kentucky Fried Chicken employee admitted to putting pubic hair into the order of an annoying customer (Top 8). It is also recognized that a lot of fast food restaurants ,including McDonald's, do this to their food. That seems like a horrible thing to do to a customer's food. The worst I have heard about is someone spitting in a customer's food, but now we know the real story.

McDonald’s is a real problem. Not just because of its grease and hair infested junk food but because it is everywhere. There is a McDonald’s at every turn. I know back home there is at least 3 within five miles of one another. I think it is ridiculous that so many people have been brainwashed into eating McDonald’s. I try to avoid it at all costs and after learning some disturbing information I don't want to ever go there again. But that is just me,maybe you still like McDonald's, that’s your choice, but think about what  you might be eating the next time you order McDonald's.

  1. Rachel,
Your blog was interesting and I certainly learned a lot of stuff that I'll have a hard time forgetting, for instance, the story about the pubic hair in the food was very shocking. I also couldn't believe that one guy found a hamburger that looked the exact same 14 years later. I guess their food really has stood the test of time. Perhaps I am a little biased but I did find some parts to be unfair. For instance, the hair story. One employee's poor decision should not be a reflection of the entire food chain. The same thing could have happened at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Also, you state that one of the problems is the abundance of the restaurants, "there is a McDonald's at every turn". I don't really consider this to be a problem. The abundance of the restaurants and the cheap food has greatly reduced hunger all over the world, and in third world countries, these types of fatty foods are what people need. To be fair, McDonald's food is certainly not very healthy to the average American, but a world without a Big Mac is a world that I can't even imagine, and one that I would not want to be a part of.

  2. Rachel,
Your blog was rather interesting and I will not be able to eat at a McDonald’s ever again after reading this. You effectively established your pathos when you were talking about the pubic hair in the food, spitting in the food, as well as squeezing the grease out of the McDonald’s hamburger. The images that you described left me with a feeling of disgust. This feeling was furthered when you said; “A man from Utah reported finding a McDonald's hamburger in his pocket. It still looked exactly the way it was when it was made, except for the fact it was 14 years old.” The only thing that I think you were lacking is the appeal to ethos. After reading your blog thoroughly I found that you did use many resources, but the excerpts that you chose to use helped your appeal to logos more than your appeal to ethos. Overall I think you did a great job of persuading your audience to not eat McDonald’s anymore, but in the future I would try to establish a better sense of credibility.

  3. Rachel, your blog alone has helped ruin my appetite for McDonald's. I learned a lot from your blog and you provided many interesting and disgusting facts about fast food. You did well with your use of ethos, providing many "shock factors" within your blog, such as the story of the 14 year old burger. You also succeeded in appealing to a college-specific audience because fast food is a relatable topic among us poor, college students. However, I think there could be improvement within your blog by providing more sources of these unfortunate fast food events. Your sources were credible, but I couldn't tell which fact was from which source. The change in font at the tail end of your post was also a little more difficult to read than the rest of the writing. Your post was still very good, and it definitely appealed to me specifically because I go on late night McDonald's runs, but now I will refrain from doing so!
